We moved the front inside wheel well forward a little and slightly bent back the edge of the skid plate or trimmed it a little and removed flaps; no rub at all.

That will not give you any more clearance than would 35's on 20's, offset and tire height being equal.

In my opinion it looks better than 35's on a 6" drop bracket. I have 325/60/20's on 20 x 9 wheels with a 3" front 1.5" rear lift. The tire are 35.12 tall x 13" wide.
