Glenfield 30a vs marlin 336.

My stepson was given a Glenfield model 30A by his grandparents. the rear leaf sight is horrible and we had to remove the elevator completely to get it to shoot. What options for sights are available? Looking for something adjustable but would prefer to keep open/aperture sights. Don't really want to scope it. Hi everyone, I recently installed a Williams receiver peep on my recently refinished glenfield 30a. After installing the peep sight and included front finer optic sight, I hit the range. Upon shooting with the peep sight, I realized that I’m about a foot high at 50 yards even with the elevation adjustment on the peep as far as it will go.

Don't know what it is, but when I hold my Glenfield, it just feels more sturdy than my new 336. What is the general consensus about the durability of the older Marlin leverguns vs. the current stock? The 30AS has a beechwood stock, instead of walnut. Mechanically, the 30AS is a 336 with a different labeling stamp. The scope wouldn't hold a zero, so I replaced it with a new scope. I kept the original scope as a novelty piece. Mine was a pawn shop find in Georgia in 2012. It's the reason I found this forum.

Metal is pretty good, but clearly been used. Most of the flathead screws are somewhat boogered up, not terrible, but not like new. Action is very slick.
